The short version
- Your house data is visible only to the people in your house.
- We never sell your data and we never show ads.
- Mayo does not move money and never sees your card or bank details.
- Bills, notes and chat lines you give Mayo are read by an AI model to do its job. Nothing is used to train one.
- You can delete your account and everything in it from the You tab, any time.
What we collect
We collect the minimum Mayo needs to run a house. Nothing more.
- Account: your name and email address.
- House: the house name, address, members, and the details you choose to store such as Wi-Fi, landlord contact, rules and lease dates.
- Bills and chores: amounts, due dates, who owes what, who has paid, and the chore rotation.
- Forwarded bills and receipts: emails, photos and files you send to your house address or add in the app, so Mayo can read a bill's amount and due date, or match a payment receipt to a share.
- What you tell Mayo: notes and documents you give her under Tell Mayo, the house chat, and questions you ask her. Notes and documents are part of the house and stay with it. If you delete your account, your questions to her go, and each line you wrote in the house chat stays in its place reading only that it was deleted.
- Calendar, only if you choose it: Mayo writes the house's due dates and your chores to the calendar you pick, on your phone. When you write to Mayo in the chat she may see the times of your calendar events for the next two weeks so she can spot a clash, and event names only if you turn that on in Settings. They go with that one message and are not kept.
- House calendar link: the house has a calendar link you can subscribe to from any calendar app. It shows the house's due dates, chores and who has them to anyone holding the link, and leaving the house rotates it.
- Photo: the picture you choose for your profile, or the one your sign-in gave.
- Device: a push notification token, the app version and device type.
What we do with it
- Split bills, send reminders and keep the chore rotation, which is the product.
- Send you notifications you have turned on. You can turn each type off under You, then Notifications.
- Fix bugs when you report them.
- Reply when you contact support.
We do not use your data to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.
Who can see what
Everyone in your house sees the house: its bills, who has paid, the chore rotation and the house details. That is the point of a shared house. Your private account details, like your email address, are not shown to other members beyond what they need to recognise you.
A small number of service providers process data on our behalf: Supabase hosts the database and files; Cloudflare receives email sent to your house address; Resend sends our sign-in emails, and Mayo's reminders by email when a phone can't be reached; Sentry receives crash reports from the app and this site, with names, amounts and messages left out; Expo delivers push notifications; Google's Gemini models read forwarded bills, documents, notes and chat lines so Mayo can act on them, and that provider does not use what it reads to train its models; RevenueCat confirms subscriptions. They act under contract, only on our instructions, and cannot use your data for their own purposes.
We share data with authorities only when the law requires it, and we will tell you if we are allowed to.
Forwarded bills and receipts
Each house gets an email address. When you forward a bill or send a photo, Mayo reads the provider, amount and due date, creates the bill, and stores the original so your house can check it. When a payment receipt arrives, Mayo reads the amount, the sender and the date, matches it to an open share and marks it paid. Originals are kept for twelve months, then deleted on their own. Write to us to have one removed sooner.
Please forward only bills. Anything else sent to the house address is treated the same way and can be seen by your house.
Payments
Mayo is not a payment service. It tells each person what they owe and opens the app your house uses to pay each other, with the amount filled in. The payment happens there, under that service's terms. Mayo never sees your card, bank or wallet details.
Subscriptions are billed by the App Store or Google Play. They handle your payment method and send us only confirmation that the house is subscribed.
Your choices
- Notifications: turn each type on or off in Settings, or in your phone's notification settings.
- Export: every bill and share as a spreadsheet, with what each person paid and anything held for someone, any time while you live in the house, from You, then Export house data. For everything else, ask us and we send it within thirty days.
- Correct: edit your name, email, photo and house details in the app at any time.
- Leave: leave a house from People. Your shares stay on its books so nobody is left short; nothing else of yours stays with it.
- Delete: You, then Delete account. Your account and personal data are removed within thirty days. The house continues for the people still in it.
How long we keep it
While you have an account, we keep what the house needs. Settled bills stay in the house history so everyone can look back. Forwarded originals are deleted after twelve months. When you delete your account, your personal data goes within thirty days, except records we must keep for tax or legal reasons, which are kept only as long as the law requires.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access inside Mayo is limited to the people who need it to run the service. No system is perfectly secure, so if something goes wrong we will tell you what happened and what we are doing about it.
Age
Mayo is for people who are sixteen or older. If you believe someone younger has an account, tell us and we will remove it.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. Questions or requests go to hello@mayo.house and we answer within a day.
