The short version
- Mayo helps a house split bills and share chores. It does not move money.
- One person per house subscribes through the App Store or Google Play. Everyone they invite joins free.
- What you add to your house belongs to you and your house. We only use it to run Mayo.
- Be decent to your house. Don't use Mayo to harass anyone or break the law.
Agreement
These terms are a contract between you and Mayo. By creating an account or joining a house you agree to them, along with our Privacy policy. If you do not agree, please do not use Mayo.
Your account
You need to be sixteen or older. Keep your sign-in details to yourself, and tell us straight away if you think someone else has used your account. You are responsible for what happens under it until you do.
Houses and members
- The person who creates a house sets it up and, at first, pays for it. Anyone in the house can share the invite. A house is a group of equals: nobody removes anyone, and each person leaves from People when they choose.
- Members see everything in the house. If you leave, you lose access to the house, but the bills and history you were part of stay with it so the records make sense, and any share still open in your name stays on its books.
- The subscription belongs to whoever pays for it. When it ends, for any reason, anyone in the house can pick it up from House plan in the app.
- Mayo gives everyone the same view of who owes what. Deciding what is fair, and settling disagreements, is up to your house.
Subscriptions and billing
Mayo is a subscription billed by the App Store or Google Play at the price shown in the app. It renews automatically until you cancel, which you do in your store's subscription settings. Cancelling stops the next charge; you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.
Every house starts with two weeks free. Refunds are handled by the store under its rules. Prices can change; we will tell you in advance, and a change never applies until your next renewal. Any offer we make has its own dates and conditions, shown when you accept it.
Mayo does not handle money
Mayo is a record of who owes what and a reminder service. It is not a bank, a wallet or a payment processor. When Mayo opens a payment app with the amount filled in, the payment is between you and your roommate under that app's terms. Mayo is not a party to it and cannot reverse it, guarantee it, or resolve a dispute about it.
Mayo reads bills, documents and what you write to her with an AI model, and can get things wrong. Amounts and due dates she reads, rules she takes from a note, and chores she offers to claim are there for you to check, and nothing changes the books until a person confirms it. Check them against the original before you rely on them.
Acceptable use
- Do not use Mayo to harass, threaten or shame anyone, in the house chat, in a note to Mayo, or anywhere else.
- Do not add people to a house without their agreement, or send bills that are not real.
- Do not try to access other houses, break our systems, or copy Mayo's content or code.
- Do not use Mayo for anything unlawful.
If you do, we can suspend or close your account. We will tell you why unless the law stops us.
Your content
Bills, photos, house details and everything else you add are yours. You give us permission to store, process and show them to your house so Mayo can work, and for nothing else. That permission ends when the content is deleted, except for backups, which are cleared on their normal cycle.
Availability and changes
We work hard to keep Mayo running, but we cannot promise it will never be interrupted. We may change or remove features, and we will give notice for changes that matter. If we ever shut Mayo down, we will give you at least sixty days and a way to export your house data.
Disclaimers and liability
Mayo is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we make no promises beyond what is written here, and we are not liable for indirect losses, or for disagreements, missed payments or late fees between the people in your house. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for Mayo in the twelve months before the claim.
Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have as a consumer that cannot be limited by contract.
Ending
You can stop using Mayo at any time and delete your account from the You tab. We can end these terms if you break them, or with thirty days' notice for any other reason. Sections about your content, liability and governing law survive.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, and any dispute will be heard in its courts, unless the consumer law where you live gives you the right to something else.
